In My Mailbox (Just Received) July 18, 2011

In My Mailbox is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren.  Every Monday we come together to share the books and bookish items we've received in the mail, purchased or borrowed.  It's a fantastic way to see what's new, what others are reading and to grow our already lengthy wish lists!  Don't you love it?

In my mailbox this last week was:

The Evolution of Charlie Darwin:
Partner With Your Dog Using Positive Training
by Beth Duman, CPDT-KA
This book was provided by the author, in conjunction with Bostick Communications, for review purposes.

"Do you want to learn to train your dog using the gentlest dog-friendly methods but you get overwhelmed reading long, complicated training books?  If so, this is the book for you!
Trainer and educator Beth Duman takes you step-by-step through training and living with your new dog by chronicling her first year's experience living with a funny little rescued dog.  She named him Charles Darwin in hope that he'd evolve into a dog she could enjoy as a personal friend and an ambassador for the use of positive training methods."

Room
by Emma Donaghue
(this book is paperback bound with deckle edge pages.  Deckle edge pages resemble hand-made paper with a frayed texture to the edges.  It is an ornamental feature that sets it apart from other books)

I am so excited for this book as I've been dying to read it since the word got out months ago!  I won this from fReado.

"To five-year-old Jack, Room is the entire world. It’s where he was born and where he and his Ma eat and play and learn. At night, Ma puts him safely to sleep in the wardrobe, in case Old Nick comes.
Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it’s the prison where Old Nick has kept her for seven years, since she was nineteen. Through ingenuity and determination, Ma has created a life for herself and her son, but she knows it’s not enough for either of them. Jack’s curiosity is building alongside Ma’s desperation -- and Room can’t contain either of them for much longer...

Told entirely in the inventive, often funny voice of Jack, Room is a celebration of the resilient bond between parent and child, and a brilliantly executed novel about a journey from one world to another."

That's it.  It's been a rather quiet week spent reading some good books.  How was your mailbox this week?  Did  you borrow some enticing reads or purchase that irresistible novel?  Please do leave a comment.  I love to know what's new for you!!

  2. Thanks for commenting on my IMM! :) I hope you enjoy Room more than I did, as I seem to be part of a minority here when I say I didn't like it at all!
